February 5

An highlight of my day was POS 354 class titled “Gender and Politics". We talked about the different kinds of feminists and male allies.

“Many feminists think I’m too liberal and not radical enough, while some believe I’m too radical. How do I know where I fit into?” I asked Dr Akanji.

Dr Akanji, probably one of my favourite lecturers, explained the different categories of feminists and their history. I believe I’m a radical liberal feminist…an intersection between the liberal and radical feminists.

The liberal feminists in the 19th century were too apologetic and tried to appeal to the conscience of those in power. As a result of this, their goals were almost never achieved.

This led to the emergence of feminists who believed in using more practical approaches to get things done. They organized protests to get their voices heard.

I really enjoyed my class today and further reiterated in my mind, a fact that the radical feminists mostly, always get the job done

Also, from the movie, “Moxie", I learnt that there will always be different kinds and types of feminists and they all serve different purposes… the “gentle” feminist, the “angry" feminist, the “loud" feminist. We all get the job done and that’s what matters.
